With over thirty years of experience in the field, James has made significant contributions to various organizations and communities. Here's how he actively engages in charitable and community activities: SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS: James participates regularly as a speaker in events hosted by organizations such as the Alzheimer's Association, Angels' Place, the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) and the State Bar of Michigan. LECTURER and WRITER: He has been a frequent lecturer and writer for ICLE, and the State Bar of Michigan, sharing insights on topics like "Financial and Estate Planning for People with Disabilities and Elders," and drafting medical and Financial durable powers of attorney, and real estate issues as "handling the house." For 15 years he has authored and maintained the chapter on "handling the house," treating real estate title, family caregivers, property taxes, and special needs planning. CERTIFICATIONS: James holds a Certificate of Completion in Probate and Estate Planning from the Institute of Continuing Legal Education and the Probate and Estate Planning Section of the State Bar of Michigan. He also holds a graduate certificate as a "Specialist in Aging" with the Wayne State Institute of Gerontology. PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS: He is a Fellow with the Oakland County Bar Foundation and long-time member of the Oakland County Bar Association. COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP: James served as the Chairperson of the 41st Annual Conference on Issues in Aging, a joint initiative by Wayne State University, Madonna University, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and has assisted with The Oakland County SAVE Commission treating elder abuse. CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS: James actively supports charitable organizations such as Liberty Riders, and the Planned Giving Committee of Angels' Place, making a positive impact on therapeutic horseback riding programs, and homes for adults with developmental disabilities. ADOPTION and CULTURAL EXCHANGE: James and his wife have embraced a multicultural perspective by adopting their children, Jeanne Marie, Ana Terese, Carlos, and Perry, from Guatemala, fostering a bond with their heritage and exploring shared cultures through travel. James' commitment to his profession and community is based upon his desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those he serves and the broader community. Her journey in the legal field began in 1995 at Specialized Care Services, where she immersed herself in geriatrics and case management. Christina pursued her undergraduate education at Taylor University, earning a bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2002. She furthered her education at Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where she obtained her juris doctorate in January 2006. During her tenure at Cooley, Christina's involvement at the Sixty Plus Elder Law Clinic significantly enriched her experience in elder law, estate planning, and probate work. Christina's career spans 17 years of practicing law, during which she has made notable contributions as a Guardian ad Litem and a Court-appointed attorney through the Oakland County Probate Court. Her dedication to dispute resolution is underscored by her certification as a General Civil Mediator, where she skillfully aids individuals in resolving conflicts while preserving their valuable relationships. Outside her legal practice, Christina finds joy in spending quality time with her family, exploring new destinations through travel, and maintaining an active lifestyle through running.
